Product Development Engineer



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Project Manager, the successful candidate will form an integral part of the development team and contribute to all technical aspects of the assigned project(s) through all stages of the product development cycle (concept, design for manufacture, transfer to production and commercialisation). As such the position will involve close liaison with internal CAD, quality and manufacturing engineering groups and external vendors. The candidate would ideally have Medical Device design experience, however candidates with experience in controlled environments (pharmaceutical, aerospace, automotive etc) will be considered.



The candidate should be proficient in modern methods of component fabrication in various materials (thermoplastic, metal, ceramic) and have a broad understanding of assembly and joining methods. Experience in transfer of design to manufacture would be a strong advantage.



It is not essential to have formal CAD skills but a working knowledge would be a benefit (Solid Edge/Works).



The successful candidate would also be expected to demonstrate an understanding of risk reduction strategies such as risk analysis and FMEA.

Raising of design specifications

Checking and approval of component and assembly drawings

Engineering change order execution and management

Performing design calculations where appropriate (mechanics, heat flow).

Preparation of bills of materials

Manual construction of prototype devices and testing

Contributing to pilot production builds

Technical reporting

Tolerance analysis

Vendor liaison



EDUCATION

Graduate level (2:1 or better) in an appropriate Engineering discipline (Mech Eng or similar). Industrial experience in a relevant area.



ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Team player.

Medical device/healthcare experience preferred

Experience in formal problem solving techniques will be an advantage



IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate would have experience of the design and development of complex, small and intricate electromechanical assemblies and their introduction to production via controlled BoM releases. He/she will play a hands on role in the development activity, his/her design output being backed up by strong fundamental engineering skills.



The candidate will need to have a flair for creativity and innovation, however strong analytical skills will also be needed to ensure timely resolution of issues as they arise.



It is likely that he/she will have experience of working within a controlled environment where design control and risk reduction activities form a normal part of the development process.



The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to demonstrate the effective management of external toolmakers and vendors
